Today marks opening of Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi.
Now in it’s 18th year, the world largest temporary sculpture park will be on exhibition along the stunning Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk from 23rd October to 9th November – the perfect excuse to head down to Bondi, soak up some sunshine and enjoy some of the most exquisite sculpture installations.
Highlight pieces include Argentine Alejandro Propato’s 45m long Permanent Sunrise on Tamarama beach made up of 6km of bright nylon, and Cave Urban’s 12.4m high bamboo tower on the end of the south Bondi headland titled Save Our Souls.
There is also a chance this year for you to actually be a part of one of the sculptures!!
Lucy Barker’s interactive #selfiesculpture allows visitors to climb inside her sculpture installation (make sure you capture and hashtag your perfect #selfiesculpture)!
This year, 109 sculptures will be exhibited by artists from all around the world, including Argentina, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand and the USA. Selected from over 500 submissions, this year’s exhibition will have 34 artists exhibition for the first time at Bondi!
Be sure to look out for the bright orange beanbags, where you can sit back and take in the view, and have the chance to ask questions at the Macquarie Artist Talks that will take place every weekend at Marks Park and Tamarama from 11am-2pm. Or if instagramming is your calling, then on November 1 there will be an insta-meet, where instagrammer Paully Vella will be attending – be sure to come prepared smartphone in hand.
