Next Wednesday, 29th October Project 5, Volume 6 is offering the rare opportunity to collect a vibrant and highly original artwork with their Street Art Charity Auction for ArtsReady.
With four covetable large-scale contemporary street art pieces going under the hammer in the name of charity, an exclusive VIP art auction for Project 5, Volume 6 will be held at Lend Lease, Darling Quarter Theatre.
All you need to do to attend is pre-register at Project 5′s website - or if you are unable to attend the event, don’t worry, you won’t miss out on all the action with telephone and absentee bidding possible through contracting aMBUSH Gallery.
The four works have been created by internationally renowned contemporary street artists, 23rd Key, Alex Lehours, Kyle Hughes-Odgers and Askew One.
23rd Key artwork is a portrait of Australian rock legend Chris Cheney, lead singer of The Living End and captures the many sides of Cheney’s personality though her expert stencil work In Double Time. Her unique background in printmaking, graphic design and audio engineering contributes greatly to her photo-realistic and painstakingly meticulous stencil style. She is one of the few stencil artists to incorporate 3D elements and free-hand embellishments, breaking ground in her medium.
Sydney artist and muralist Alex Lehours’ God of Sea explores the harmony and balance created between two opposite states of being – chaos and calm, and the positive balance between the two. Calling on references from virtually every major art movement of the twentieth century, Lehours is an essential member of Australia’s stable of multi-disciplinary graphic artists, skilled in illustration, graphic design, typography and aerosol painting.
Internationally acclaimed Western Australian artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers; well-known in Perth for his significant 6×80 metre high public artwork – From Above; has created The Moon and the Sun a landscape/cityscape focusing on ideas of life and growth and the continuous circle of experience. Evoking elements of Takashi Murakami’s Superflat aesthetic, Hughes-Odgers is enormously accomplished harnessing his bold style to experiment masterfully with geometry, depth of field, balance, pattern and symmetry.
The final work is by New Zealand’s own Askew One. The piece is typical of his street work, channeling his early style, Improvisation 1 infuses all the energy and movement of graffiti lettering, coupled with an organic look. The artist is recognised globally for his ferocious, explosive graffiti aesthetic, and is self-taught in graphic design, illustration, photography and more. There is a precious tension in his work that comes from tempering ferocity with restraint.
Watch the artists harnessing their creative talents on the Village Green of cultural precinct Darling Quarter from earlier this year:
Not only will successful bidders take home one (or more) of these incredible artworks, sales will support the ArtsReady program – an initiative supported by the Australian Government that helps young people establish themselves in careers in the arts and creative industries through traineeships.
